The NOME Startup Competition is a once-a-year opportunity for all Nordic life science startups to gain access to the NOME Mentoring Program and its world-class mentors, which normally has an invite-only policy. Five startups will be selected to pitch during the NOME Annual Meeting on November 23 in Copenhagen.

The Nordic Mentor Network for Entrepreneurship (NOME) is an elite 18-month, 100% Mentoring Program for promising life science startups based in the Nordics. By matching the startups with high-profile life sciences executives and entrepreneurs in the Nordics and the US, the vision is to help them transform into internationally renowned commercial successes.

A central part of NOME Annual Meeting 2021

The Startup Competition is scheduled as a central part of the NOME Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting is, as the name suggests, a yearly event where the leading experts within life science gather to network and to get to know the most promising life science startups before everyone else.

This year, five startups will be selected to pitch to an audience consisting of serial entrepreneurs, investors, clinical experts, and representatives from larger biotech/pharma and MedTech companies. A jury consisting of NOME mentors will select which startups that secure an exclusive spot in the NOME Mentoring Program. The winner will also receive 50 000 DKK in prize money.

“The NOME Startup Competition is a major event for us. It is the only open call for NOME and attracts a great number of promising startups who use the opportunity to get accepted into the best mentoring network in the Nordics. I am thrilled to see how much NOME can do for these companies and how much they develop through our program.” (Peter Birk, Program Director at NOME)

In addition to the Startup Competition, the NOME Annual Meeting 2021 includes a keynote talk by John Halamka, M.D., M.S., President of the Mayo Clinic Platform, performance by Jan Hellesøe, an award show, talks by the next generation of life science companies, and refreshment and networking opportunities. It will be held on November 23 at Industriens Hus in Copenhagen and everyone is welcome to attend, free of charge.

Secure access to an elite Mentoring Program

NOME provides access to a flexible 18-month Mentoring Program designed to fit the needs of each startup, world-class industry mentors, and an international network with a yearly boot camp in the US. The US Camp offers intense workshops and one-on-one sessions around topics such as IP, capital, legal, regulatory, and market access from local US mentors.

Since 2016, NOME has onboarded 75+ highly-experienced mentors and enrolled 40+ startups from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. One of them being Sweden-based Gedea Biotech:

“As a result of being part of NOME, we got a very valuable sounding board that is separate from the board of Gedea and the owners, the mentors gave an outside-in perspective, and a valuable network nationally and internationally. Since the mentors are involved for ∼2 years, they get an understanding of the conditions in which we work. This means that they can give real advice and not trivial advice that other coaches give after a day of workshops.” (Annette Säfholm, CEO at Gedea Biotech)

Normally, access to the NOME Mentoring Program is by invite only, so the Startup Competition is a once-a-year opportunity.
